forest tracks, perfect for those exploring the countryside on a bike.
National Cycle Routes
The Hadrian's Wall Cycleway and the
Pennine Cycleway lead cyclists
through the Gilsland and Greenhead villages, where you're sure of a warm welcome and you can:
- Find somewhere to stay;
- Take advantage of the local services, cafes, pubs, village shop and post office available;
- Have a break and enjoy a paddle in the river or let the children play in the play parks provided;
- Explore some of our historic attractions, such as Birdoswald Roman fort, Thirlwall Castle, and

Sustrans have produced a leaflet providing additional cycle routes encouraging you to explore Hadrian's Wall
and the North Pennines, as well as the Borders and Eden Valley Cycleways. For details see

Hadrian's Wall Bus (AD122)
Throughout the summer, the Hadrian's Wall Bus (AD122) leaves Wallsend in Newcastle at 9.00am every morning
and travels the length of the Wall to Bowness-on-Solway on a return trip. It can carry up to 4 bikes, making
it easy for those who want to catch the bus out with their bikes and cycle back for example.
